Lake Mendota is the largest of our Dane County lake at 9,842 acres, but still it is only the 9th largest lake in the state. Monona is about one third the size of Mendota at 3,274 acres and is about the same size as Kegonsa at 3,209 acres. Waubesa is about one third smaller than Monona and Kegonsa at 2,080 acreas. Taking the area of all these lakes together and they would still only be the fourth largest lake in Wisconsin. All this is to say that given the age of the cities, towns and villages on the shores of our wonderful Dane County lakes, it is surprising that there is any land still available…and it's only going to get more expensive as time goes on.
