Homes on Madison’s East side that sell in the $175K to under $200K represent the single largest price range on the East Side. And little wonder because these are the East Side’s “bread-and-butter” homes. American classics, typically built in the 1970s, these homes are the homes we grew up in with three bedrooms, two baths, and finished space in the lower level. The average above grade finished square feet in this price range is about 1,350 sqft (not counting attached garage space) with another 350 square feet finished in the basement. You can conceptualize 350 square feet as a room about 30′ x 12′. That’s a lot of space and often includes a family room, extra bedrooms and office or some other bonus room.

Of course every home is a little different but many of these home will have eat-in kitchens with plenty of storage space and generous counter space. Beautiful hardwood floors and wood work are typical in these homes and the master bedrooms frequently feature walk-in closets and full baths. Many of these homes will have one or more fireplace—either gas or wood-burning— and most will have an attached garage. In the lower level you will often find a finished family or rec-room and maybe an extra bedroom. Walk-out basements are not all that uncommon either. Outside you can typically expect a mature landscape with attached deck or patio and in many cases a fenced back yard for Fido.
